Every other Friday the Rochester City Councilmembers and the Mayor receive communications that provide a snapshot of recent activity in the greater downtown Rochester area called On The Build that provides high level details about upcoming construction impacts and updates on projects. The updates are also posted below.

Another key gateway to downtown has reopened with the completion of the North Broadway reconstruction. Traffic control was removed earlier this week, fully opening this major corridor that was re‑imagined through a 2015 study to be more welcoming for commuters, residents and nearby businesses. The project delivers dedicated pedestrian and bike facilities, upgraded transit access, improved safety and operations, and stronger connections to riverfront recreation. The improvements renewed the corridor to provide a safer, more accessible and more vibrant northern entrance into downtown Rochester.

5 Avenue SW from 2 Street SW to 3 Street SW will be reduced to a single lane and flaggers will be present to direct the head-to-head traffic. Access to Rochester Towers will be maintained at all times. (6/12-6/13)
The East Center Street Reconstruction project begins with the full road closure on East Center Street from 7 Avenue E to 6 Avenue E, including both intersections. Sidewalk will always be maintained on one side of the street but will flip back and forth as needed. (6/15-7/29)

Civic Center Drive SE will be completely closed from south of the Zumbro River bridge on 3 Avenue SE to 1 Street SE. Traffic be detoured on 4 Street SE to Broadway Avenue to East Center Street. (6/20)
3 Avenue SW from 2 Street SW to West Center Street will completely close on 6/20. Construction flaggers will be present to assist with access to Calvary Church.
Link construction progresses on 2 Street SW west of Highway 52, during this next phase construction will shift to the south side of the street. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane each direction on the north side of the street between 18 Avenue SW and 20 Avenue SW. Sidewalk and crosswalks will be closed at the 19 Street SW intersection and pedestrians should follow the posted detour signs. (6/22-8/3) date changed since last newsletter from 6/12 to 6/22
2 Street SW from 6 Avenue SW to 7 Avenue SW will be completely closed. (6/22-7/10)
Phase 2 of the East Center Street Reconstruction project will expand the existing closure on East Center Street from 7 Avenue E through 9 Avenue E up to the Boys & Girls Club driveway, including the intersections of 8 Avenue E and 9 Avenue E. Sidewalk will always be maintained on one side of the street but will flip back and forth as needed. (6/23-9/11)
5 Avenue NW between West Center Street and 1 Street NW will be reduced to a single lane with head-to-head traffic that must stop and take turns. (6/25-6/27)

West Center Street opened to traffic on 5/29 and will remain open through the remainder of the parking ramp restoration work. The bridge work has been completed and the remainder of the project work is progressing as planned and is on schedule.
